Which course is right for me?
Choosing the right course can be confusing, especially if you’ve worked with a CAD program before. Hopefully, this will help answer some of your questions and guide you in the right direction. If you still have questions, feel free to contact us. We’ll be more than happy to help!
Which Course is right for me?
If you’re not sure if you want to commit to a full Essentials course, our CAD Camp course is what we would reccommend as your first class. Our CAD Camp class is a fun, hands-on class designed for people who have never had previous experience with CAD systems. It’s an easy way to test the waters and see which program is right for you. Students get to explore different CAD programs and complete a small drawing using basic AutoCAD commands. It prepares students for AutoCAD Essentials by familiarizing them with the basic interface and simple commands within AutoCAD.
Certified CAD Drafter- Levels 1 & 2
This program is designed for people who have no previous CAD or drafting experience. Students in this program learn basic drafting and AutoCAD skills, which prepare them for an entry-level drafting position. This program is project based, which means that students not only learn AutoCAD, they also work on projects throughout each course. These projects are compiled into a portfolio that students can present to potential employers when interviering for drafting positions.
In the first course, students learn manual drafting skills, multi-view projection, dimensioning standards as well as AutoCAD skills. Projects in this course include mechanical and architectural plans.
In the second course, students expand their knowledge of AutoCAD. Students learn to plot their drawings to scale using layouts, annotative scaling, external referencing, attributed and dynamic blocks, and 3D modeling.
Both courses cover the same basic AutoCAD skills, so it depends on your own learning style. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion from ACC and Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) upon successful completion of the course.
This is an instructor-led course in a traditional classroom setting. This class is 40-hours long and offered in the daytimes (Monday through Friday for 1 week), or in the evenings (two nights a week for 5 weeks). This class is ideal for students who live in Austin and lean best in a face-to-face setting where they can interact with the instructor and other students.
AutoCAD Fundamentals Online
This course is entirely online, there is no classroom requirement for this course. Students have 60 days to complete this course and can log in to learn anytime day or night. Student software downloads are available with a .edu email account (provided with registration at ACC). This class is ideal for students who can’t commit to attending class on specific days and times, or who need flexibility in training times. Students have access to an instructor via email as well as a support hotline for technical needs.
It depends on your experience and what you’d like to get out of the program.
AutoCAD Essentials is ideals for professionals who area already in the industry and just want to learn the latest release of AutoCAD. It’s also good for people who only need to learn how to use the software, without needing to lean drafting. This class is a workshop-style class, which means that students don’t work on projects, they just learn how to use the software program.
Certified CAD Drafter courses are designed for people who have no previous CAD or drafting experience.
If it’s been a while since you’ve used AutoCAD, this is probably the best course for you. A new release of AutoCAD comes out every year, so it’s possible that you may not even recognize the interface in the latest release. AutoCAD Essentials is our most comprehensive AutoCAD class and will get your skills up-to-date in as short as one week.
If you’re proficient in the previous release of AutoCAD and just need to learn the latest features, you could take this 1-day update class. This class assumes that you know the features and interface of the previous release, so if it’s been a few years since you’ve used AutoCAD, AutoCAD Essentials would be the best class for you.
In this course, students learn how to use AutoCAD as a drafting tool. It does not, however, teach students drafting skills. Students who take this class will learn the latest release of AutoCAD, which they can then apply to their own drafting profession.
